Why It's Important To Ground Yourself

Updated: Aug 20, 2019

Years ago when I first started Developing my Intuitive side, all I seemed to hear was… “Make sure you’re grounded”.., “Keep grounded”.., “Are you grounded?” “Don’t forget to ground yourself”.. So I got the message, I had to ground myself.

So, what is Grounding? ...

Grounding is a Spiritual term that means connecting yourself energetically to mother earth. When you ground yourself it centers your soul completely in your body…

I was a good student, I grounded myself.. But, I soon forgot/stopped doing it.. not sure which really.. It just didn’t seem that important to me … Well, not as important as helping people and doing readings for them anyway.

If you’re anything like me you will love to just skip to the fun stuff, How to do Tarot/Intuitive readings, How to connect with Spirit, How to see Aura’s, How to facilitate a Healing session with someone, How to interpret Colour, How to read Numbers etc etc…

But here’s the thing…

Unless you are grounded you will NEVER be able to do any of the fun stuff really well, …TRUTH!

I found out the hard way… Oh yes!.. But the harder the lesson the deeper it's learned and believe me, I’ve learned this one at core level.

You see when I started out and was sitting in closed circles and development classes, we got told to ‘Ground’ ourselves, but the important bit for me was that we never ever, got told Why we had to ground ourselves and what would happen if we didn't.

Unless I get told the why of doing something, it just doesn’t seem to stick with me. Also because I didn’t get told why, I didn’t think it was really that important, so I just stopped doing it Eeeek!..

Some symptoms of being ungrounded:

· Feeling spaced out and not quite with it

· Being more forgetful than usual

· Sudden loud noises making you ‘jump’

· Eating more than usual

· Feeling jittery

· Feeling anxious

· Mind seems to race all the time

· Lack of focus

· Easily getting static shocks

· Clumsiness

· Not being fully ‘present’

· Feeling tearful for no reason

So, as you can see the side effects of not being grounded aren’t very pleasant or pretty and when you engage in any kind of Intuitive/Healing work which is what I was doing at the time, grounding really is a necessity.

When we are fully grounded, it is much easier to engage in the world because energetically we then become a part of it, rather than feeling disconnected and floaty, and a little bit will- ‘o-the-wisp.

Grounding helps you keep a sense of perspective, helps you keep your boundaries, and keeps you focused, connected and present. It really is, very important.

One thing I did take away from my being ‘Ungrounded’ experience is that when I explain things to clients I make sure that not only do I tell them the WHAT, as in .. what needs to be done.. I also tell them the WHY… For me, I find that the ‘what’ without the ‘why’ is giving someone half a story and what use is that!

If I’d have been told the 'why' all those years ago, I would have most certainly been grounding myself at every turn, that’s for sure.

So, if you’re feeling a little ungrounded yourself, try the tips below to quickly ground yourself and remember if you do any kind of Intuitive/Energy work it really is important to make this a daily habit:

Hug a Tree (Seriously, the energy is powerful, and you just can’t help being grounded when confronted with that kind of energy. Remember, trees are experts at grounding!

Make root vegetables part of your daily diet. If you can, eat them raw. Root vegetables come from the ground and have all that lovely grounding energy in them.

Visualise, on your ‘in breath’ energy coming from the top of your head down through your body to your hips, on your ‘out breath’ continue the energy down the rest of your body, legs and into the ground. A perfect quick way to ground yourself using the breath.

Walk bare foot on grass

Exercise

Take a Sea- Salt Bath

Use grounding crystals such as, Garnet, Black Tourmaline, Smokey Quartz, Hematite and Onyx

Use grounding scents such as Sandalwood, Patchouli, Rosewood and Ylang Ylang.

Stay in the present moment, be mindful of what you are physically doing.

How do you ground yourself? What effects have you had when you’ve not been grounded, let me know.

Till next time...
